Meet the Coaches

Laurin Conlin, Owner and Head Coach

Laurin Conlin, Owner and Head Coach

Laurin started Team LoCoFit with the mission to redefine healthy within the fitness industry. As a competitor within the industry, she saw both a lack of education and quality from many coaches. That is why Team LoCoFit focuses on quality coaching, putting the clients long term interests first and taking an educated, evidence based approach to all matters.

Laurin’s interest of nutrition started from a very disordered place; as she was anorexic for many years growing up. Her interest then shifted to nutrition and performance as a track and field athlete in high school, to then an amateur bodybuilder. She competed for several years as an NPC Figure competitor before making the switch to the Bikini division. In 2014, she won the overall at NPC Nationals in Bikini, earning her professional status. Laurin has competed for several years as an IFBB Bikini pro since.

She attended the Florida State University for her undergraduate degree, pursuing a Bachelors in Exercise Science. She then went on to complete her Masters in Exercise Science from University of South Florida in Dr. Bill Campbell’s lab. Laurin’s Masters research focused on how different dieting strategies effect weight loss and weight regain. Particularly, looking at a ‘flexible’ diet where no foods are excluded versus a meal plan, where foods were excluded. Her research was the first study to directly examine this relationship between these two diets.

Laurin travels to give lectures and seminars on a variety of topics including nutrition, training, psychological aspects of dieting, running a business and more. She hosts two podcasts, Redefine Healthy Radio and The UNglamorous Life. Additionally, Laurin works with several companies within the industry who align with her values and provide the best products and services within their market.

Ryan Conley, Director of Training

Ryan Conley, Director of Training

Ryan’s first interests in training came from combat sports, like Tae-Kwon-Do, wrestling and MMA. Then his passion turned to weight lifting after entering high school and wanting to get bigger and stronger for wrestling. He found powerlifting and has been a competitive lifter since 2010. At Ryan’s first powerlifting meet he weighed 190 pounds and squatted 435, benched 295 and deadlifted 425 for a 1,155 pound total. Now, Ryan has totaled elite in two different weight classes including the 220, 242 pound weight division with an all-time personal record total of 1835 pounds. Ryan’s best individual lifts in competition are 705 squat, 435 bench and 705 deadlift. He has overcome many setbacks and injuries over the course of his career which now allow him to better serve our athletes on their own personal journey to better themselves and bypass many of the errors he once made.

While Ryan has his Bachelors in Criminology, he has immersed himself in exercise science, sport and performance world through high levels of self-education. Ryan gained certification as a personal trainer from the ISSA at 19 years old. Ryan has read, listened and attended seminars from top professionals in the space for years. His extensive background knowledge is only one part of being director of training for Team LoCoFit; his desire to help clients move and perform to their best ability is his greatest strength.

Anyone can write a training program, but Ryan’s attention to detail and genuine care for our athletes is what sets his training apart. He listens to feedback, makes careful adjustments and puts clients health first.

Ryan is also a professional fire fighter and a Reflexive Performance Reset (RPR) Level 2 specialist.

Gillian SanFilippo, Assistant Coach

Gillian SanFilippo, Assistant Coach

As a teenager, Gillian fluctuated between being both overweight and underweight. Approximately 4 years ago she began weight training and tracking macros, which allowed her to gain control over her weight and pursue her dream of competing.

At the end of 2016, she became Laurin’s client in preparation for her first bikini competition. In her most recent season she hit the NPC National stage as a Bikini competitor, placing top 6 and top 10. During this time she learned a lot about herself as a competitor and solidified her goal of working towards her IFBB Professional status.

Over the past several years learning more about dieting and training, Gillian also discovered her passion of helping others reach their physique goals. Gillian understands all ends of the spectrum; from being overweight, to underweight and competitive level bodybuilding lean. This led Gillian to get her NASM personal trainer certification, pursue her Masters and also start coaching for Team LoCoFit.

Gillian has her Bachelors in Nutrition and Food Science with a concentration in Dietetics from Montclair State University. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Exercise Science, with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning, at the University of South Florida in Dr. Bill Campbell’s lab.

Combining education and real life experience with Gillian’s empathetic nature is one of the main reasons she thrives as a coach.
